After the zombie apocalypse, Benny, a young teenager, has grown up in a town safely fenced off from the Rot and Ruin. As a baby, Benny was rescued from zombies by his older brother Tom, who has raised him. Tom, a katana wielding young man, is a zombie hunter, and Benny finds himself as his brother’s apprentice when he is forced to choose a job.

Margot and I devoured all three books and eagerly await the fourth. In fact, we like the YA series so much, we’ve moved onto John Maberry’s Joe Ledger series for adults.

more dystopian

In case you haven’t had your fill of dystopian, here’s a couple more titles that I enjoyed recently.

People are doing their usual mall things when a bomb is discovered in the parking lot, but this isn’t an ordinary explosive bomb, this one releases something into the ventilation system. When the mall is shut down and the people inside trapped in a quarantine, all kinds of hell breaks loose. Entertaining and believable.

Our corrupt ways have unleashed an evil that has been biding its time. Beginning with a series of earthquakes, people begin to turn  on each other. Brutally attacking and murdering anyone within reach. Soon, cities are empty except for hunting parties and we join a group of teenage straggler looking for food and safety. A bit confusing, but fast paced and worth a peek. Partially set in Vancouver.

The Demonata Series

Significantly more gruesome and violent than the vampire books. 12 books.


Just started the first in Darren Shan’s latest series, 12 books about zombie. So far, very gory!
